SSC (BL) – Chapter 4

Zuo Qin cackled in laughter, watching Bastard Hunzi’s defeated back and fleeing. Then, he glanced at Xue Lin at the corner of his eyes. Strange, why did Benefactor look unhappy?

Xue Lin was indeed in a very complicated mood at the moment. On the one hand, he wanted to thank this invisible skeleton owner for helping him to solve Bastard Hunzi, but on the other hand, the events of the past few days in quick succession had made him feel woolly and uncomfortable.

“Little brother…” Xue Lin brewed for a moment and asked in a loud voice, “Who the hell are you?”

There was no one around. Naturally, it was impossible for Benefactor to be talking to himself. So, the only possibility: Is he talking to me?

Zuo Qin immediately tensed up. He was only trying to secretly repay his kindness, but it seemed like he had overdone it. Benefactor had found himself.

No, I can’t show up. In the opera, when the White Snake wanted to return the favor, he showed up in his original form, and scared Xu Xian out of his wits and caused him to faint. He was afraid that his benefactor would faint, too. So Zuo Qin, who didn’t want to frighten him, decided to pretend he didn’t hear a thing and ignored Xue Lin.

Xue Lin waited calmly for a while, but didn’t get a response. He remembered that although everything in the past few days was odd, it seemed like the owner of the skeleton was trying to help him. He was treating him nicely.

Xue Lin figured this out and secretly conjured a plan in his heart. He sullenly said, “I know you aren’t a living creature of the mortal world. If you don’t show up, then don’t follow me anymore. And I will never burn joss paper or joss sticks for you again.”

Xue Lin’s words were half-truths, and were meant as a threat. How could Zuo Qin think of so much? When he heard that Benefactor not only would drive him away, but also wouldn’t burn joss paper and joss sticks for him, he immediately got anxious.

The soft taste of the joss stick still lingered in his mouth. Moreover, Benefactor was so nice. He has followed him for so many days, and was already a bit reluctant to leave him.

Zuo Qin was under such pressure that he didn’t dwell much on it and hurriedly materialized, mumbling aggrievedly, “Okay, okay, I’ll just show up…”

Xue Lin’s eyes widened, not even daring to blink. A young boy about 18 or 19 years old appeared in the blank field.

The young man’s skin was white and smooth. His face was a little chubby and more adorable. He had a pair of big, brilliant starry eyes, which were now a bit dim because of his grievances. His bitter face was extraordinarily distressing. He was wearing exactly the same clothes that Xue Lin had wrapped the skeleton before – a really cute and handsome young male.

Zuo Qin couldn’t be bothered with his grievances when he saw that Xue Lin kept silent for a long time. He thought he had scared him out of his wits, so he quickly stepped forward to check him out.

Seeing him coming forward, Xue Lin recovered from his shock and took a tiny step backward, then stood still. Despite his mental preparation earlier, the real sight of him still frightened him. Anyone who saw the sudden addition of a large living person in front of them…hep, a large living ghost, couldn’t be able to take it in either.

At Xue Lin’s subtle movement, Zuo Qin thought that his benefactor was afraid of him. Somewhat sharply and frustratedly, he also took a step back, and bowed his head, feeling saddened deep within.

For some reason, Xue Lin felt uncomfortable seeing Zuo Qin’s sadness. He barely restrained his inexplicable urge to rub Zuo Qin’s head, then cleared his throat and asked, “Were you the one who secretly helped me deal with Bastard Hunzi, today?”

Zuo Qin nodded his head and said sincerely, “Bastard Hunzi is a ruffian, and he went so far as to blackmail Benefactor. I really couldn’t stand it, so I punished him just a little.”

Zuo Qin’s eyes were large and bright as he spoke, and the sincerity written in them made Xue Lin involuntarily convinced.

“Wait, did you just call me Benefactor?” Xue Lin was a bit surprised to hear Zuo Qin address himself, but Zuo Qin nodded his head quickly and explained, “That day, you picked up my skeleton in the deep forest and even paid to bury me, so you are naturally my benefactor. As they say in operas, a drop of water shall be returned with a burst of spring. Naturally, I’ll have to repay my benefactor’s grace as well!”

It was only after hearing these words that Xue Lin understood the unusual things that had happened to him in the past few days, and those were this ghost’s way of repaying his kindness. He found himself in between tears and laughter for a moment. Although his methods were a bit clumsy, he had really helped him a lot.

“Helping you back then was just a matter of my peace of mind. It was no big deal. I would have helped no matter who it was on that day, you don’t have to repay the favor.” Xue Lin said in a deep voice. This was indeed the truth. He hadn’t thought of asking favors in return, so he didn’t take it to heart, not least because he was subsequently implicated in so many things.

“Benefactor.” Zuo Qin became even more excited at these words instead of being dejected, blinking his big moist eyes at Xue Lin. “I knew you were a good man, and all the more reason for a good man to be rewarded. Don’t worry, I will definitely repay you well!”

Tsk, the little ghost didn’t listen to half of what he said.

Xue Lin’s head swelled, but he could barely reject him when he looked into those big eyes filled with longing and pleading. At such a young age, this little ghost has been floating around alone in the world. He probably hasn’t lived well, that was why he was reluctant to live after he offered him some joss sticks and joss paper.

Xue Lin’s heart momentarily softened and he asked hesitantly, “Do you really want to follow me?”

When Zuo Qin saw that Xue Lin’s attitude had loosened, he promptly climbed up a pole and nodded desperately regardless of what Xue Lin had said.

Xue Lin couldn’t hold back a deep chuckle as he saw the way he nodded his head off. After following his benefactor for many days, this was the first Zuo Qin had ever seen him smile. He couldn’t help but stare.

However, his smile was just a flash in the pan. Xue Lin restrained himself and said calmly, “Then follow me. I still can afford to raise a ghost like you at home.”

How could Zuo Qin say no? Naturally, he followed Xue Lin back to the hut with a thousand goodies. However, Xue Lin was in a bit of a dilemma when he entered the house. The house was originally occupied by him alone, so there was only one bed and no spare room.

Forget it, both of them were men, so they didn’t need to be so particular. With this thought in mind, Xue Lin pointed back to the bed and said to Zuo Qin, “There is no other room in the house, so you can sleep here with me at night.”

Zuo Qin nodded quickly, and in hindsight registered that he would be sleeping with Benefactor at night. He couldn’t help but blush. He sneaked a glance at Xue Lin’s rigid side profile and the temperature on his cheeks continued to rise.

In the evening, Xue Lin cleaned up and went to bed in a plain, flimsy short robe. Zuo Qin, being a little ghost, didn’t need a bath, so he went to bed early to warm the bed up for Benefactor.

Because of Zuo Qin’s cold physique, the bed was actually chilly and extremely comfortable. Xue Lin sighed snugly, thinking that raising such a ghost was somewhat rewarding.

When both were awake, they were conscious of each other’s presence on the bed, so it was inevitable for them to keep their limbs in check. But when Xue Lin fell asleep, due to the stifling summer heat, he unconsciously leaned closer to the only coolness on the bed. In a moment’s time, he was hugging Zuo Qin all around.
