SSC (BL) – Chapter 6

The atmosphere turned a bit strange, but Xue Lin pretended nonchalance, and said, “I’ll go cook.” He didn’t dare to look at Zuo Qin anymore and went straight to the kitchen.

After watching Xue Lin disappear, Zuo Qin resisted the heat on his face, and raised one hand to stroke the spot that Xue Lin had just pinched. He instantly jumped like a frightened rabbit, but sweetness filled his heart.

The two rested as usual in the evening, and Zuo Qin quietly opened his eyes after ensuring that Xue Lin was asleep. Although Benefactor didn’t say anything, Zuo Qin observed throughout the day and felt that Xue Lin was only pretending to be fine. Deep inside, he was still very angry with Bastard Zhou.

Benefactor was an ordinary person and failed to find Bastard Zhou, but he was a ghost and could follow the Bastard Zhou’s scent to find him. Therefore, Zuo Qin secretly made up his mind to deal with him while Xue Lin was sleeping.

He crept out of the bed, and in order to avoid making any noise that would wake up Xue Lin, he slipped out through the window. Next, he sniffed the faint scent in the air all the way to the most famous gambling house in Anhe Town.

Zuo Qin remembered his father’s words before he died, “A brothel is a beauty nest, and a gambling house is a den of gold. You must never enter them.” So he always stayed away from such places, but in order to find Bastard Zhou Bastard, he could only bite the bullet and entered unwillingly.

As soon as Zuo Qin arrived at the door, he heard two people talking, and the content of their conversation was surprisingly about Bastard Zhou.

“I don’t know where that Bastard Zhou got the money, he actually came here to gamble.”

“Isn’t that right? It must be dirty money. Moreover, he’s also inexplicably lucky today. Not only did he have the money, he’s winning more and more.”

“Strange, strange…”

The two whispered in each other’s ear and then left. Zuo Qin, however, got two important messages from their exchange. First, Bastard Zhou was indeed in the house, and second, the money he has must be Benefactor’s!

Zuo Qin discovered that the money was missing when he helped Xue Lin restore the house to its original state. He thought that Bastard Zhou had taken it, and it was as he’d expected.

It hasn’t been easy for Benefactor to earn money, and it was even harder for him to save. Yet this damned scoundrel Zhou used it to gamble so lavishly. Zuo Qin trembled with rage.

He remained in his spirit state, so no one saw him when he entered the gambling house. But as soon as he stepped into the casino, he saw Bastard Zhou betting in the middle, his face red and beaming with joy.

Zuo Qin gritted his teeth and took advantage of the crowd to secretly retrieve Xue Lin’s purse from Bastard Zhou’s waist. Bastard Zhou was having the time of his life gambling at this point, so he naturally paid no attention to this little noise.

Of course, he wouldn’t let Bastard Zhou get away so easily after retrieving Xue Lin’s money. He used a few tricks up his sleeves to turn Bastard Zhou’s luck around. His original purple luck turned black and he lost several rounds in a row.

Bastard Zhou’s eyes reddened in anger, having never expected that the pile of silver taels on his table would go up in smoke in no time. The people beside him kept urging him to pay up. He cursed and spat and just wanted to pull out the purse from his waist, but after groping for several times, he grabbed nothing.

Bastard Zhou panicked. He lowered his head and searched for the purse, but found nothing.

The owner of the gambling house noticed his anomaly and winked. A few brawny men loosened their muscles and came around. Bastard Zhou broke into cold sweats, and regardless of what might happen, he yelled, “Impossible! My purse has been stolen! You must have stolen my purse! You’re black market dealer… nuh-uh…”

Before Zhou Hunzi finished speaking, the brawny men covered his mouth and restrained him. The owner of the gambling house strode up to him and slapped him gruffly in the face, saying, “I’ve let you win a few games and you really don’t know who you are anymore? How dare you accuse us of being a black dealer? Did any of you see his purse?”

Others in the room shook their heads when they heard the owner’s question, while Bastard Zhou’s face changed dramatically, and his legs went limp. The owner of the place gave the order indifferently and gloomily, “How dare you come to gamble without money? Brothers, entertain him well.”

The other people in the casino then heard Bastard Zhou’s screams one after another, yet not a single person made a sound to stop it, bearing indifference showing that such happenings were commonplace.

Zuo Qin was very satisfied that Bastard Zhou was taught a lesson. Seeing that it was about to brighten outside, he hurriedly retraced his steps and returned to Xue Lin’s cabin. He put the purse back into the hole under the bed, then crept back to the bed again. The stone in his heart fell and he slept without any burden.

Early in the morning, Bastard Zhou limped back to Anhe Village. The villagers rejoiced at his tragic state, but didn’t utter a word. Bastard Zhou has always rampaged around the village all day doing no good, but they still reluctantly put up with him for the sake of his blind mother. He really was disgusting.

The beating of the Bastard Zhou this time was indeed to be celebrated. In a short while, the news spread all over the village. Even the little children who could barely speak made up ballads to make fun of him, so Xue Lin naturally heard it too.

He felt happy at first that that pig, Bastard Zhou, finally got what he deserved, yet at the sight of Zuo Qin, who was soundly asleep, he felt a little touched again. He couldn’t sleep well last night and woke up in the middle of the night without seeing Zuo Qin.

Xue Lin squinted and went to feel under the bed. As expected, his purse was there. Thinking of the news he heard when he woke up in the morning about Bastard Zhou getting beaten up for gambling without money, it sounded like the handiwork of this ghost.

Xue Lin thought for a moment and went out to the coffin shop to buy more than ten joss sticks. When he returned to the house, he leisurely lit them.

Zuo Qin smelled the fragrant and delicious scent of incense in his sleep, and immediately woke up. He got up like a carp and ate the joss sticks that Xue Lin had burned down for him with gusto.

Xue Lin smiled as he watched Zuo Qin gorged himself, grinning from ear to ear. He also felt warm and happy, waiting patiently for him to finish eating beside him.

After eating, Zuo Qin realized with hindsight that today wasn’t a special day. Why was benefactor burning joss sticks for him without rhyme or reason?

When Xue Lin saw the shining question in Zuo Qin’s eyes, he somehow felt the urge to tease him, and deliberately said, “Last night, Bastard Zhou was beaten up at a gambling house, and this morning he limped back to the village. I wonder which kind-hearted person did it.”

Zuo Qin felt guilty and proud when he heard Xue Lin say that. He wanted to loudly tell Benefactor that he was that kind-hearted person, but he was afraid that his means would scare him.

Seeing the guilty conscience all over Zuo Qin’s face, Xue Lin deliberately asked in a deep voice, “Where were you last night?”

Zuo Qin didn’t realize that Xue Lin was just teasing him at all. He thought that Xue Lin knew all about it, so he quickly gave a clear account of last night’s events. Then he fluttered his big eyes and looked at Xue Lin pitifully.

Looking at the miserable face of the capable little ghost in front of him, Xue Lin was amused once more. He could no longer resist the urge and touched his head warmly. “I know you were venting for me, and I appreciate it. You’ve done so much for me, so what can I do for you?”
